Loving That 1950's Feel -Helen Sullivan

Friday 5th September 2008

Vintage has become very big recently with people such as Peaches, Mischa and Kelly picking up on the trend.

Dita Von Tesse has adopted a Bettie Page, Pin up Girl style that was very popular in the 1950's and with a waist as tiny as her's who wouldn't wear

those nipped in at the waist dresses and provocative corsetry and underwear.

Just a few fashion and make up tips to achieve a similar look.

Right to get that tiny waist you have to start with the right underwear, i recommend a website called

what katie did, this covers everything from your corsets to your stockings http://www.whatkatiedid.com/

Moving on to the dress style, now the dresses of the 1950's tended to be nipped in waist with an A-line skirt or a pencil skirt, great for creating

curves or highlight the ones you already have.

Vivien of Holloway http://www.vivienofholloway.com is great for this style and if you do not fancy the website prices check out the ebay shop of a bargain.

And lastly but most importantly hair and make-up, this really tops off your new 1950's look.

This quick video will talk  you through, step by step how to get Bettie Page style bangs and victory rolls.

ROLE MODELS - MILLIE MARSTERS

Friday 5th September 2008

Just who makes a good role model?

That was one of the topics of discussion in the office yesterday.

Once upon a time role models would be people who'd made serious achievements in life:

Elizabeth 1st

Florence Nightingale

Winston Churchill

Margaret Thatcher

But now .... well, it appears that we now have a completely different set of rules when it comes to our current role models.

Is this is good thing?

I personally don't really think so...

Admittedly, chicks like Madonna have acheived much in the field of entertainment and continue to do so.

But people like Jordan and Jade Goody? The jury must be out on these two.

As you know we chicks do love Jordan but when you think about it ... is she really a good role model? She has changed her body dramatically and posed for soft porn piccies? Is that really what you would like your daughter to do?

I'd love to hear what all you chicks out there have to day about this.

Come on, don't be shy, email us and let us know!

Going up and so Going Down.

Gothic New Romantic Style- I'm loving the revival of gothic chic and very excited about it combinding with New Romantic style,

lets face it what girl doesn't look good in a little black dress and pearls?

Ribbons Lace up Shoes- Cute but with a big enough heel always sexy.

The Tent Dress -Can someone please explain  to me why a dress refered to as a TENT is seen as fashionable. It is not going to help any girl, if you are thin it looks like your wearing a sack and if you curvy you have hidden them under a shapely waste of material! Not to mention makes anyone look like they are 9 months gone. YUCK

The FACTS

The English Government is set to officially roll out its campaign to vaccinate young girls against a virus that causes cervical cancer.

Social networking sites have already been targeted in a bid to encourage girls to have the jab which helps protect against human Papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is a sexually-transmitted infection that causes most cases of cervical cancer.

Schools across England will start vaccinating pupils aged 12 and 13 (Year 8) from this week onwards, with about 300,000 girls receiving the jab in England alone.

By July 2011, more than two million girls will have been offered the vaccine, including those up to the age of 18 as part of a catch-up programme.

The HPV vaccine protects against over 70% of the strains that cause cervical cancer, which accounts for around 1,000 deaths a year in the UK.

The Issue

Although most parents appear to be in favour of inoculation, some are concerned that Cervarix has not been tested sufficiently, while others have been scared by stories claiming that girls have suffered extreme reactions to a similar drug in America.

A few are worried that vaccinated girls will be less likely to have smear tests and more inclined to have sex at a young age.

A third of those who did not allow their daughters to take part in the pilot study in Manchester gave long-term safety as the reason.

I can understand that parents have worries about this jab but at the same time if it is really going to help these girls avoid something as unpleasant as cervical cancer, surely it is a good thing. I do not believe that this jab will encourage girls as young as 12 to have sex, and maybe if a 12 year old girl is having sex this is down to parenting and a lack of sexual education in schools (sorry of my digression onto another issue) and rather than her having had a jab to protector against cervical cancer.

But if this jab had been available when I was at school I am sure it would have been something that I would have had. Part of me thinks that it should be up to the girls themselves to decide as it is their bodies it’s going into.

However, I still feel that this is a jab to protect the younger generation against cervical, this is a good thing, the government aren't running around saying "There you go, now you can have as much unprotected sex as you like." Now are they? Parents are Parents and no matter how old you are they worry, they are programmed to.  A good things is being done here.-Cassie.

Katy Perry!

Wednesday 3rd September 2008

Hi chicks!

Just back from an absolutely ROCKING time in Florida!

OK, so it was a bit like dodging one hurrican after another ... roll on Fay, Gustav and Hanna ... but I did manage to have an incredible time hanging out in and around South Beach, Miami.

I won't tell all about that right now ... but I will tell you I LOVE KATY PERRY.

She's sexy, she's naughty ... and she likes to kiss other girls.

I know all the usual crappy red tops are up in arms about it all.

HIDEOUS ROLE MODEL ... ENCOURAGING OUR DAUGHTERS TO BE LESBIANS ... and all.

But, what the hell!!!

Us chicks for ages have had fun holdiong hands and dancing with each other .. if we want to sneak in a little cheeky kiss then so what?

If some of us find out that we really are gay then so what???

We are girls, we are chicks.

WE ARE FABULOUS!

GO FOR GOLD! Cassie Pascal

Monday 18th August 2008

What an awesome weekend we Brits have enjoyed at the Olympics.

The best ever weekend we've ever had, at any Olympics ever, in terms of medals won.

I really wish that I was in Beijing to enjoy it all first hand.

I love the Stadiums that they have built ... I love the fact that Great Britain has taken 3rd place on the medal table (if only for a short while).

I have been a bit creeped out by the organisational skills of the Chinese ... it's all a little too efficient, a little too controlled.

Mind you, I have to say that it has really wetted my appetite for London 2012 - I think that we are going to do an incredible job hosting the games.

COME ON TEAM GB .... LET'S SEE IF WE CAN GET LOADS AND LOADS MORE MEDALS!
